After a social ride from Cullinan to the lovely hamlet of Tonteldoos in 2015, the idea was born to turn this into an official event. And so we did!
To make an event like this possible, we have to rely on the help of many wonderful people. If you would like to become part of this event as a volunteer, please contact us.
Tonteldoos is a small and charming settlement in the Mpumalanga Highlands located in a peaceful valley near Dullstroom, a popular fly fishing destination.

Support Crew & Drop Box Options
Riders have the option to either have a support crew or to make use of the dop box option.
SUPPORT CREW OPTION:
There will be two water points (point 3 at Loskop and point 5 at Stofberg ) on the 2019 rider route where support crew members can meet up with the riders to supply food, drinks, spares and moral support. Support crews will NOT be allowed at ANY other water points. The other 3 water points will be fully catered points where the organizers will supply water and snacks.
Due to safety reasons and dust issues, the support vehicles will not be allowed to follow riders on the route. The support crew will receive a separate route file with the dedicated supporter route that they should follow at all times. If a support vehicle is on the rider route at any point, the rider(s) will be disqualified.
DROP BOX OPTION (R150 per solo rider and 300 per team)
If a rider chooses to do the race without a support crew, he/she must book the drop box facility.
With the drop box option, each solo rider / team will received 2 containers (teams will receive a bigger container than solo riders) that will be taken to the two drop box points on the route. Container 1 will be taken to water point 3 (at Loskop at about 140km into the race) and container 2 will be taken to water point 5 (at Stofberg at about 215km into the race). No containers will be taken to Checkpoint # 1, Checkpoint # 2 or Checkpoint # 4. Limit anything to be forwarded to checkpoints to fit into these containers.
Strictly one container only per checkpoint per solo rider / team. The organizers will supply the containers so riders are not allowed to make use of their own containers.
IMPORTANT: Containers for both checkpoints must be packed and handed in at the dop box zone to go onto the transport truck on race day (Friday, 29 March) between 14h00 and 15h00. The transport truck will depart at 15h15 and all drop boxes not on the truck, will not be transported. No exceptions.
After the last rider has gone through the last drop box point, all the containers will be taken to the finish where the contents can be collected between 15h00 and 18h00 on Saturday. Those who cannot collect contents at the finish can collect it during the week after the race at a location in Pretoria that will be determined later.
There will also be a shuttle service available at the finish to take riders and their bikes back to central drop-off locations in Pretoria and Johannesburg. This service has to be booked with the shuttle company directly (see below)
BIKE TRANSPORTS will offer the following bicycle and rider transport options:

The whole route will be on district roads and farm roads so riding will not be very technical. The final 120km is however tough with lots of uphill drags and the higher altitude will test the lungs.
The route will not be marked and the roads will NOT be closed off for the event so be cautious of potential traffic at all times and make 100% sure it is safe to go before doing any road crossings. Route files and checkpoint information will be supplied to all riders closer to the time.
ROUTE GPX FILES WILL BE E-MAILED TO ALL PARTICIPANTS CLOSER TO THE EVENT
The routes will not be marked so it is compulsory for each rider to have a GPS.
The route GPS files will be sent to all riders closer to the time. The full route will be on the file and NOT just checkpoint coordinates. Riders will have to follow the exact route and are not allowed to self-navigate to checkpoints.
Cellphones are not reliable navigational devices so riders are NOT allowed to use cell phones as their navigational device.
Make sure you pack extra batteries or power banks to ensure your GPS has power at all times.
Adhering to the race rules are extremely important to ensure everyone's safety and to make the event experience a pleasant one for all involved. The list of rules is quite comprehensive but PLEASE read through it all to make 100% sure you are acquainted with every single one. No exceptions will be made with regards to any these rules.
